College GPA questions

How is college GPA calculated?

Each letter grade converts to grade points on the 4.0 scale (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on). Every course’s points are multiplied by its credit hours, those are added up, and the total is divided by the total credits. That credit-weighted average is your GPA, so a 4-credit course counts more than a 1-credit one.

What is the difference between semester GPA and cumulative GPA?

Semester (term) GPA covers just the courses in one term. Cumulative GPA combines every term — and any prior credits you enter — into one credit-weighted average across your whole record. Gradejar shows both: a term GPA per semester and the cumulative GPA at the bottom.

Can I include my current GPA from previous semesters?

Yes. Open “Add prior GPA / credits” and enter your existing cumulative GPA and the number of credits behind it. Gradejar rolls that into the total, credit-weighted, so you get your new overall GPA after this term.

Does it remember my courses?

Yes — this is what sets Gradejar apart. Your courses, credits, and grades are saved privately in your own browser, so they’re still here when you come back. No account, no login, no server. Every other free GPA calculator forgets your courses the moment you reload.

Is the college GPA calculator free?

Completely. There’s no signup, no login, and no paywall — open the page and start adding courses.
