High school GPA questions

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

Unweighted GPA puts every class on the same 4.0 scale, so an A is 4.0 whether it’s regular or AP. Weighted GPA rewards harder classes: most schools add +0.5 grade points for Honors and +1.0 for AP or IB, so an A in AP can count as 5.0. Gradejar’s toggle switches between the two instantly.

How do I calculate my high school GPA?

Convert each class’s letter to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, …), multiply by that class’s credits, add them all up, and divide by total credits. In weighted mode, Honors and AP/IB classes get their bonus first. Gradejar does all of this live as you type.

Does it support Honors, AP, and IB classes?

Yes. Turn on weighted mode and each class gets a type menu — Regular, Honors (+0.5), or AP/IB (+1.0). The bonus is added to that class’s grade points before averaging, matching how most U.S. high schools weight the transcript.

Will it remember my classes?

Yes — that’s the Gradejar difference. Your classes, credits, and grades are saved privately in your own browser and are still here when you return. No login, no account, no server. Other free high school GPA calculators forget everything on reload.

Is the high school GPA calculator free?

Yes, entirely free — no signup and no login. Open the page and start adding classes.
