Grade calculator questions
How does a weighted grade calculator work?
Each category’s score is multiplied by its weight, all of those are added together, and the total is divided by the sum of the weights. That gives your overall grade as a weighted average — so a category worth 50% moves your grade far more than one worth 10%.
Do my weights have to add up to 100%?
No. Gradejar divides by whatever your weights total, so a partially filled gradebook still reads sensibly — but if you want a true final grade, make sure every category is included so the weights reflect the whole course (usually 100%).
What grading scale does it use for the letter?
It uses the standard US 10-point scale (A 90–100, B 80–89, C 70–79, D 60–69, F below 60). If your school uses different cutoffs, our EZ grader and gradebook let you set a custom scale.
What’s the difference between this and the final grade calculator?
This grade calculator combines all your categories into your current overall grade. The final grade calculator answers a different question — the exact score you need on the final exam to hit a target — so use that one when you’re planning for the final.
Is the grade calculator free?
Yes — completely free, with no signup and no login.
